Everyone, regardless of their access needs or disability or reliance on the assistance of carers or specialist equipment, should be able to use a toilet facility with dignity and hygienically!
2022 will see the opening of a Changing Places toilet at the Albemarle Centre.
People with profound and multiple learning disabilities or with physical disabilities such as;● spinal injuries, ● muscular dystrophy ● multiple sclerosis who often need extra equipment and space will be able to do so safely and comfortably.
Changing Places Toilets enable anyone, regardless of their disability, to go to the shops, attend hospital appointments, enjoy community life, socialise and travel. All the things that most of us take for granted every day. The Albemarle’s Changing Places toilets will be in addition to our standard accessible toilets.
For people visiting Taunton, this will assist access to the town centre, shopping, the theatre, Cricket ground, train station, pubs and restaurants as well as being within easy reach of Taunton’s riverside.
The facility will include electric ceiling hoist, electrically adjustable wash basins, changing bed and a shower.
Opening hours will be determined by Centre operations according to demand but would normally be 9.00-5.00pm Monday to Friday. Please phone in advance to check we are open.
There are no plans to charge for use of this facility if it is looked after respectfully by users.
